CYD CAREER ACADEMY

The CYD Career Academy began in 2014 as a collaboration between Comprehensive Youth Development, a New York City nonprofit, The New York Alliance for Careers in Healthcare and The Borough of Manhattan Community College. The Career Academy trains 50 young men and women each year as Certified Medical Assistant specialists. This program was designed to prepare graduates to be competitive, entry-level candidates for healthcare settings.

CYD Career Academy participants take part in a rigorous, seven-month college level program that was developed with input from heathcare sector employers. The program includes workforce skills and customer service training, classroom and occupational training, two days at NYU Langone's Simulation Lab, certification and job placement.

Medical Assistants (MA) work in doctor’s offices and hospitals as part of a team to provide clinical and administrative assistance. MAs make good salaries, have flexible schedules and have a lot of career growth potential to pursue other careers in healthcare (ex. Nursing and medical billing).
